Constant use of a tanning bed can increase your chances of developing skin cancer. Even the misuse of tanning beds has started governmental conversation about regulating usage in some states.
However, according to a university study of 600 students, researchers found that 59% of students that said they have ever used a tanning bed agreed with the statement, “Tanning bed use can make me ill, but everything causes cancer these days.”
Also, 52% agreed with the statement, “Tanning bed use is no more risky than lots of other things that people do.” One of the researchers, Smita Banerjee, a behavioral scientist at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, said that this type of thinking for teens is all too common. Teens justify the usage of tanning beds by saying “there is danger all around you.”
What do you think about teen’s stance on tanning? Should there be more strict governmental regulation on tanning salons? Leave us a comment below and let us know your thoughts Spread the message about skin cancer, share this article with friends.
